The 31st anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan was celebrated in Kutaisi. Mayor of Kutaisi Giorgi Tchighvaria, Vice Mayor Davit Eremeishvili, representatives of local self-government and Afghan war veterans laid wreaths at the Heroes' Memorial in Ninoshvili Square. On this day, 44 war beneficiaries of Afghanistan were also given financial support.

The withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan ended on February 15, 1989, with the implementation of the Geneva Agreement.
