The foundation was laid for the construction of a waste composting site in Kutaisi. The information about the compost square was introduced to the citizens by the mayor of the city Giorgi Chighvaria, at the very place where the construction of the square is planned. According to him, Kutaisi will be the first among Georgian municipalities to have a composting field. Kutaisi is expanding the separate collection of waste. For this purpose, 10 places will be arranged in the city, where three containers will be set up for separate collection of plastic (blue container), paper (yellow container) and glass (green container). In addition, an additional 70 containers for collecting plastic waste will be set up on various streets and squares in the city. And in public schools and institutions - 60 containers for collecting paper waste. The arrangement of the composting site will be completed within 6 months. A building with an area of ??3024 square meters will be built. The center will allow us to recycle at least 10 thousand tons of green waste generated and collected in the city annually, which will result in at least 1020 tons of finished compost. Ketevan Tskhakaia, Deputy Mayor, Head of the "Spectrum" Union of Scientists of Imereti Region, took part in the presentation of the construction of the composting field.
Arranging a composting field is an integral part of the project, which was launched in August 2018 by Kutaisi City Hall. The project "Rivers without Waste - Clean Black Sea" is funded by the EU Black Sea Program for 2014-2020 and involves four partners from three countries (Georgia, Moldova and Romania). The leading partner of the project is Kutaisi City Hall.
