The Mayor of Kutaisi Ioseb Khakhaleishvili received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Georgia Mariusz Maskiewicz. The Ambassador congratulated Ioseb Khakhaleishvili on his election as the Mayor of the city and presented him with the book "Polish from Kutaisi", which is a political biography of the first Polish-born in Kutaisi, Polish President Vladislav Rachkevich. "We can firmly say that Kutaisi is the center of Georgian-Polish friendship. "As the Imereti region cooperates with the several voivodes in Poland, Kutaisi also has the twin city- Poznan, and these relations are fruitful, interesting and profitable for both sides," said Ioseb Khakhaleishvili. A monument dedicated to the first president of the independent Poland Vladislav Rachkevich will be opened in the Georgian-Polish Friendship Square in Kutaisi in the near future; moreover, the memorial plaque will be placed on the wall of the State Museum in memory of the Polish captives who died in Georgia during World War II.
