Creation of a special Oak Forest Survival Program was discussed at Kutaisi International University The meeting was initiated by the MP of Kutaisi Zaza Lominadze and was attended by Mayor of Kutaisi Ioseb Khakhaleishvili, State Representative of Imereti State Zviad Shalamberidze, Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Iuri Nozadze, the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Natural Resources Maia Bitadze and Irakli Karkashadze, the Deputy Mayor of Kutaisi. Within the framework of the Georgian National Forestry Program, a working group meeting was held in Kutaisi to improve the situation in the Mukhnari forest. There is preserved Endemic and red list species "Imereti oak" in the oak forest near Kutaisi. Illegal logging of the trees, waste pollution and other negative factors, which have been a problem in the area for decades, have significantly damaged the forest. A complex action plan of the activities has been developed by the specialists which includes sanitary felling, removal of trees damaged by the pest from the grove, cleaning from waste and reforestation.
