Georgian Independence Day was celebrated in Kutaisi. Mayor of Kutaisi Ioseb Khakhaleishvili, Governor of Imereti region Zviad Shalamberidze and the Head of City Council Irakli Shengelia laid flowers to the monument of Merab Kostava and officially opened rehabilitated square named after him. According to the initiative of the Mayor, the wall in the square was painted with the quotation from national hero Merab Kostava’s work.  

"I would like to congratulate the whole country on this day. Many people lost their lives in the struggle for Georgia's independence at different times. May 26 is a special day for any citizen of Georgia. “We hope that our country always will be strong! ” said Ioseb Khakhaleishvili.
